Legacy High School Themed Cake/Cupcakes

My little brother, Dalton, and his friend Katrina both shared a 16th birthday party that had a movie theme. The cake reflects their school and the clubs that they are in, (she's a cheerleader, and he's in band.), and then I made inserts for the back of the cake and cupcakes which has their faces on different characters from their favorite movies. This cake was a MONSTER! I swear it weighed 30 pounds when it was finished.

Sorry for the (almost 3 month long) hiatus. My father (pictured above with me only 2 weeks after surgery), who lives in Southern California, had to under go quadruple bypass surgery at the beginning of February. I was away helping him recover and was not able to take any orders.
All is well now though! He has almost fully recovered and is getting stronger by the day.
For those of you who were aware, thank you so much for your prayers and support.

The Hooter's Cake

So I don't normally agree to do cakes because I don't feel that I'm at that level yet in my baking, but a colleaugue of mine asked me to do this cake for his friends' birthday coming up. He wanted a Hooter's Girl Cake with a backscratcher placed somewhere on the cake (inside joke between friends is what I was told). So I did my best and this is what the product looked like when it was finished.

***Sidenote, I apologize if this picture offends anyone, I blushed a little while I was decorating this cake. Haha***

I made the backscratcher out of gumpaste so it would hold its shape. :)

My husband Matt has been getting his feet wet in the voice-over industry for the past year. After doing several v.o. jobs for training videos, product pitches, and audio reels, Matt finally landed his first televised and radio broadcast commercial! Yippee!!!! Man! What an amazing year it's been! I started this blog only ten short months ago only posting pictures after I had completed an order. There have been challenging cupcake orders, easy breezy cupcake orders, and decadent cupcake orders. All worth while and all allowing me to channel my creativity into something well, "sweet"! Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me this year and to everyone who trusts me to be a part of such special occasions. My gratitude is never ending and so is my passion for the art I create. I hope that there will be a one millionth post one day- but until then, I shall stay humble. :)

The I.T. guy for a company I work for is leaving Texas and moving to Toronto, Canada to further his education in grad school. I made this cake to look kind of like the landscape of Canada and added his face to the Canadian Mountie body and pictures of my co-workers to the Anti-Canada/Pro American rally. We're sad about loosing our wonderful I.T. guy to Canada, but we wish him all the best!

The Frosted Cupcake

I've been asked a couple different times what my favorite flavor of cake is. Without a doubt, it's the orange flavored cake with cream cheese frosting. While I am still trying to perfect this recipe, I have to give a shout out to a cupcakery located in Belmont Shores, California. The best orange cupcake award (for now) goes to The Frosted Cupcake. I visited this quaint, yet modern little shop back in July when my best friend and I decided to take a summer vacation to southern Cali. This cupcake was beyond tastey. Beyond fabulous. It was perfect! The cream cheese frosting was sweet but not too sweet. The orange flavor was subtle and refreshing. The cake was unbelievably moist. This cupcake was well worth it's near $3.00 price tag. I would've paid $10! If you are ever near the Belmont Shore area, you've got to make a stop here. You will not regret it!!! Perfect for brunches or special breakfast meetings! Look at these little guys! I made the cupcake from pancake batter and infused some real maple syrup on top before I stuck them in the oven. The icing is a regular buttercream with maple syrup whipped in. I choose maple flavored bacon for the topper, but next time I think i'll just go with regular bacon to add that teensy bit of salt with the sweet. Still though, eating one of these really was like eating Pancakes and Bacon breakfast! ;) Bizarre and fun at the same time!

I created these for a bridal shower that was given over the past weekend. It was themed around getting gifts to stock up on kitchen stuff! (I LOVE that idea!) The bride's colors for her wedding in early Septmeber are pale blue and cream. Pretty!

I created these little gems for a Surprise 50th birthday party which will be held at the Wine Thief bar in the new Omni hotel located in Downtown Fort Worth. (Hence the red wine bottles included in the theme.)

I tried to position the cupcakes where the buzzards were gathered around the tombstones.

Both the buzzards and the tombstones were made from 100% gumpaste. This was the first time I have worked with gumpaste and I must say, this stuff is incredible! It dries rock hard so you dont have to worry about any softening going on if they get warm, unlike fondant.

These accents were made from fondant. It's hard to see in this picture, but I brushed the 5 and the 0 with pearlized shimmer dust to make it look more silver and give it some sparkle!

I had to special order these from a bakery all the way out in Orange County, CA. It was just love at first sight. :)

This was added just incase the client didn't get why there were huge buzzards on the cupcakes. Plus, it's just plain funny.

The last time I made the inserts I paired them with chocolate Monarch butterflies. To switch it up a bit, I made these daisy flowers out of fondant and I really like how they turned out. Very summery! :)

These are a wonderful option if you are on a diet. Angel Food is naturally 100% fat free and I topped the cupcakes with Lite Cool Whip and fresh strawberries. Each cupcake is less than 100 calories!

I made these this past weekend for a client who was throwing a graduation party for her friend who just graduated from Brewer High School in Fort Worth. (Go Bears!)

The bottom of the caps were miniature Reeses cups (with the paper still on) and the tops were made out of black dyed fondant and blue piping.

I custom made the 2009 cupcake toppers. You can't really tell from the pictures but the stickers were very glittery. These are double chocolate gooey browines with a ganache topping and white piping.

Mmmmm... who doesn't love brownies right?!! I thought it would be cute to bake browines in little cupcake liners- so I did it. And now, I LOVE it! Baking them seperatly keeps the brownie super moist and the liners allow it to be more portable. I made some pretty teal icing brownies, and some pig browines to mock the Swine Flu craziness that the whole world seems to be in. (Hey, it may be in poor taste, but I thought it was funny...)

Cherry Blossom Cake!

Happy Birthday Liz!!! I hope you like Cherry Blossoms! :) This was my first time using a 10inch round cake pan- and I love it! :) I made the tree trunks out of dark chocolate and the cherry blossoms from fondant. I then used shimmer dust to make the whole cake sparkle, but it's kind of hard to pick up on that through photography.

I made the wings out of colored melting wafers from Wilton and added white non pariels for a more realistic effect. Like a couple others on this blog, I found this idea in "Hello, Cupcake!" I hand made the "Thank You" inserts to fit the idea that the client wanted. What a sweet way to show your gratitude towards someone huh? Sure beats a greeting card! :)

She wanted something very pink mixed with some chocolate. :) So this is what I came up with. Since I couldn't use a flash on the camera, it's hard to tell the color of pink, but trust me, the pink was perfect.

Race For the Cure! 4/11/2009

Below are pictures from Race for the Cure in Fort Worth. The turnout was AWESOME and Flower/Flour was so blessed to be a part of it. We were racing for Survivor Laurel Brackenridge, and her sister Julie, who sadly lost her battle with cancer last Novemeber. Our team ended up raising nearly $2000 for the cure!

Community Bank Luncheon!

I created these traditional white cupcakes for the local Community Bank meeting/luncheon. The logo is made from hand dyed rolled fondant and the detailing is vanilla buttercream.

Fort Worth Fire Department came to FLOUR because they wanted some themed cupcakes for the annual board meeting. I made the fire trucks out of molded white and dark chocolate, the flames and logo out of rolled fondant and buttercream, the department's initials out of royal icing, and on a select few, put some Atomic Fireballs on top. ;) Enjoy F.W.F.D.!
